No info with the images on where they came from, nothing in google drive to indicate how to block or deal with unsolicited materials. Since these jpegs initially came to my nexus notification screen, which opened the images when tapped, I assume that had they been maliciously malformed

It would be trivial for Google to block this sort of abuse of Google Drive and document preview. And it would be trivial for Akismet to fix their filters to catch this sort of spam.
